Qrowd: what is it?
Qrowd is a very ambitious project which aims at developing smart solutions to improve mobility in Trento. The project builds upon the concept of offering innovative services (targeting both citizens and the local administration) starting from the collection, aggregation and analysis of a huge amount of data, a process which is essential to acquire a detailed knowledge of the reality on the ground and make decisions that are context-aware.

Within the project different types of data about mobility are collected and integrated:
- static (concerning, for instance, the precise location of bike racks)
- in real time (concerning the availability of parking spots)
- already made available by the administration (such as location of bike lanes and availability of underground parkings)
- coming from private sources (TomTom)
- voluntarily crowdsourced data
Objectives
The QROWD project aims to:
- calculate the modal split - the percentage share of the means of transport used everyday by the citizens
- obtain information about location and availability of parkings (bikes and cars)
- visualize information about mobility on a dashboard
Technology
Technology is essential to meet the project objectives. Specifically, QROWD offers a toolkit made of:
- A mobile app (i-Log) - for crowdsourcing
- An incentivization strategy - to encourage citizen participation
- Machine Learning techniques and AI on Big data
- An analysis process
- A dashboard - to visualize data in a readable manner
