This monument, realized by the sculptor Antonio Berti, was erected in 1956 in honor of the father of the autonomy of Trentino, Alcide De Gasperi, who headed the Italian government seven times.

Next to the impressive bronze statue representing De Gasperi in a typical oratory attitude, there is the allegorical depiction of the cardinal principles of democracy: diplomacy, faith and justice. The bas-reliefs of the semicircular exedra made of pink granite, which recalls the shape of a parliamentary hall, present themes such as the distruction derived from the war, the reconstruction work of Italy, scenes of popular life and the emblems of the countries of the European Union.
It has to be noted that the special autonomous status of Trentino and Alto Adige derive from the Italian-Austrian "Paris agreement", signed on September 5th 1946 by the Italian Prime and Foreign Minister Alcide De Gasperi and by the Austrian Prime Minister Karl Gruber. Subsequently, the text of the Statute was approved by the Italian Constituent Assembly (commissioned to write the Constitution of republican and post-fascist Italy) and it became the Consistutional Law no. 5, promulgated on February 26th 1948.
