Cappella Vantini

Space for temporary exhibitions

Cappella Vantini, the ancient chapel of Thun Palace, is dedicated to San Biagio and overlooks Via delle Orne. The sober neoclassical style of the facade presents half pilasters, semi-circular windows and a triangular gable.

The building was designed and built by the architect Rodolfo Vantini (1792-1856) within the scope of the architectural renovation of the whole Thun Palace, realized during the fourth decade of XIX Century on behalf of Count Leopoldo Thun and his son Matteo.

The internal space, with a central plan, is characterized by a round dome decorated with false ceiling coffers. In pendentives are painted the symbols of the four Evangelists, while over the apse there are paintings of other Eucharistic elements, as the mystic lamb.

The deconsacrated chapel was renovated in 2006-2007 by the Public Building Service of the municipality of Trento. That intervention gave the place its ancient splendor and dignity.
