Castle of Cortesano

The first written proof about the existence of this castle goes back to 1425 in a document where it is identified as “tower house” property of Gioacchino de Mezzasoma, citizen of Trento.

Probably its construction is dated back to the first half of the 14th Century. The building is a fortified farmstead with a tower and originally presided over a large extension of land.

After Gioacchino de Mezzasoma, the property of the farmstead passed to the noble family Nicolini, who in 1541 sold it to Francesco de Alessandrini from Civezzano. He renovated and expanded the castle, also raising the tower. Even during the 16th Century, the castle was subjected to changes.

After the dead of the last male member of the Alessandrini family without male heirs in 1770, the castle deteriorated. Teresa Caterina Alessandrini, latest member of the Alessandrini family line, sold the castle in 1802 to Giovanni Battista Pisetta from Valcalda. Now the castle is private property.
