The Palazzo was built by Earl Ludovico Lodron in 1577.

Clashing with the bare simplicity of its architecture, the paintings of five inner rooms must be regarded as unique works of unquestionable historical and artistic value. Their subjects feature mythological scenes, episodes from the Trojan war, profane as well as grotesque allegories and portraits of Lodron family members. The artist - recently identified as Giovanni Battista Fontana - painted them on the walls and ceilings of the palace in the late Mannerist style during the 1580s.
