Torre della Tromba

Made of stone and bricks, the tower was originally built in the 12th century. It was endowed with its current look in the second half of the 15th century, when it was purchased by the municipal authorities.

Used as a prison in the following centuries, it was supplemented with battlements only in 1914. The Palazzo Civico stands at the foot of the tower and houses the offices of the Consular Magistrate, the city’s organ of self-government. The tower’s Neo-classical façade - topped by the civic eagle - dates back to the last 1790s, when architect Carlo Caminada planned the hall indoor with a double-height ceiling decorated with stuccos by Antonio Giongo.
