The itinerary starts in Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore, where the beautiful Basil Santa Maria Maggiore (1) stands. Further on, along Via della Prepositura, you will see Torre Vanga (2). After admiring this medieval tower, turn right to Via Torre Vanga and then turn left in Via Pozzo where you will find San Lorenzo Church (3). Originally, this church was part of a Benedictine abbey; it used to stand on the right bank of the river Adige, in a mainly farming area beyond the urban walls, and it was connected to the rest of the town by a wooden bridge. Further on, passed the flyover, you will reach San Lorenzo Bridge which offers a unique view of the urban panorama. Once you have crossed the bridge, you will see the Sant'Apollinare Church (4) and reach “Le Gallerie” (5), where the Museum of History organizes various exhibitions. Walk along Via Brescia flanking the ancient Piedicastello district until you arrive at the Divisioni Alpine square (that is reachable also by bus n. 2). Here starts the Strada degli Alpini (Alpine troops road) that leads to Doss Trento hill, which offers an amazing view over the city. The Doss is an historic and naturalistic park, which hosts an archeological site with the ruins of an Early Christian church dated back to the beginning of the VI century. Along the Strada degli Alpini you will reach the Museo Storico degli Alpini (6), which was built in an old Austrian gunpowder magazine. On the summit there is the Cesare Battisti Mausoleum (7), well visible from Trento downtown; it was built in memory of the patriot of Trento, according to the project of Ettore Fagiuoli.
