On the summit of Doss Trento, in a dominant place well visible from the city, the remains of an important early Christian complex were found in 1900.

It is a church that was probably built in the 5th century and that testifies, together with the ecclesia intra moenia (current Basilica of S. Maria Maggiore) and the martyrdom basilica (current Cathedral of San Vigilio) the ancient spread of Christianity in our region. Oriented from west to east, it was about 30m big and flanked by two small rooms (intended as small funerary mausoleums or service areas); the burials took place outside. The place was paved with a mosaic of geometric squares with interwoven motifs, a large vase decorated with acanthus and birds and with an invocation to the martyr Saints Cosmas and Damian, martyred in Antioch in 303 d.c. This precious mosaic can be seen at the archaeological section of Castello del Buonconsiglio.
