
Discover the historical center with a pleasant walk which covers the traditional itinerary made by the prince bishops from the Cathedral to the Castle! The starting point is the great and elegant Piazza Duomo (1), a precious treasure chest with the central Neptun Fountain (2) and the adjoining Torre Civica and Palazzo Pretorio (3); this Palace not only hosts the Trento Diocesan Museum(4), but it also cherishes in its own basement the ruins of Porta Veronensis (5), which was one of the monumental entrance gates to the ancient Trento of the Roman age. In the nearby, you can also admire the St. Vigilio Cathedral (6), with the ruins of the Early Christian church (7), where the bishop Vigilio was buried. On the other side of the square, the frescoed facades of Casa Cazuffi Rella (8) and Casa Balduini (9) will draw your attention towards the coloured Via Belenzani. On the corner you can see Fontana dell'Aquila (10) (Eagle Fountain), which takes the name from a peculiar legend. Walking through Via Belenzani, you can admire the frescoed facades of prestigious palaces such as Palazzo Thun (11), the current seat of the Trento Municipality, Palazzo Quetta Alberti Colico (12) and Palazzo Geremia (13). A little further on, crossing Via Roma, there is the Chiesa di San Francesco Saverio (14). Turning right to Via Manci, you can appreciate a number of nobiliar palaces, among which Palazzo Galasso (15) and Palazzo Saracini Cresseri (16), which hosts the SAT Museum about the Trentino mountaineering. With a slight change of course to Galleria dei Partigiani you will reach the SASS underground Roman archeological area (17), which covers a surface of 1700 square meters. Going back to Via Manci, on the corner which is called “il cantone”, turn left to Via Suffragio and you will appreciate a typical portico and ancient houses. You will arrive then to the Medieval Torre Verde (Green Tower) (18); turning right to the last section of Via Clesio you will reach the fortified walls of the Buonconsiglio Castle (19), current seat of the Buonconsiglio Museum (20), which hosts important exhibitions and displays masterpieces of the chivalric paintings such as the famous “Cycle of months” in Torre Aquila
